CIVILIZATION: THE WAY WE LIVE NOW

CIVILIZATION: THE WAY WE LIVE NOW
This week I went to the MMCA in Gwacheon. The exhibition is called The Way We Live Now. It's a big photo exhibition with 135 artists from 43 countries. It is divided into eight sections: Hive, Alone Together, Flow, Persuasion, Control, Rupture, Escape and Next.
It clarifies the main aspects of our increasingly globalized civilization and emphasizes that contemporary society is an extremely complex collective enterprise.

The exhibition is divided into eight sections. The section “Hive” reflects on organic urban development and expansions led by man. The section smoothly transitions into the adjacent section “Flow,” which traces the flows of capital, oil, manufactured goods and others, as well as the hardware that makes these flows such as conveyor belts, roads, ports and vehicles.
The section “Alone Together” observes relationships among humans who are by nature social animals. In this section, American artist Dona Schwartz outlines common junctures in contemporary families through the sequel series “On the Nest: Expecting” and “On the Nest: Empty Nester.” Yeondoo Jung’s “Evergreen Tower” series, which portrays 31 pictures of families in their living rooms with similar-looking furniture, share common points with Schwartz’s works - the composition of the image and family as the subject. But the work has different angles and focuses, such as the standardized lives of Korean families and the apartment culture that reinforces this standardization.
The section “Persuasion” looks into the means of persuasion developed through advertisement, propaganda and marketing. The section “Control,” explores the ways in which authoritative institutions exercise their power. The section “Rupture” discusses societal collapses and conflicts.

The section “Escape” including Olaf Otto Becker’s photo of Greenland, captures people enjoying nature and history as consumer products, and the works in the section “Next” including Michael Najjar’s “f.a.s.t.” looks at the newly developing world of the 21st century.
The photos in each section could easily be a part of other sections due to their multifaceted aspects and layered meanings. Accordingly, the sections are smoothly connected to each other and despite the broad theme of “Civilization,” the exhibition gives no impression of being unfocused or superficial.

In today's globalized world, logistics is of great significance to the further advancement of globalization and the adjustment of economic structure of various countries. In our ever-accelerating post-Amazon world, delivery is speeding up day by day, and photographer Henrik Spoller wants you to see the place behind the product. Walking in the little-known field of logistics, we find exotic scenery in freight areas, container terminals, seaports, private roads and warehouses of international transport contractors.

As one of the most e-commerce users in China, the development of e-commerce in recent years has also brought vitality and vitality to the cross-border logistics industry. Logistics is now a very important consideration for consumers. Today, the new pattern of cross-border e-commerce has emerged. Novelty network has established links between merchants and consumers through the joint global logistics enterprises. Customer's cross-border logistics ecology. Cross-border businessmen are continuously transporting "China Quality" to the world through the global logistics backbone network established by the rookie network and its partners. For newcomers, the global layout of cross-border logistics is a process of thinking about their own business and a successful attempt to establish an international logistics ecosystem.
After watching this exhibition, I always wonder whether it is a better life or a better world for me. Now, in our way of life, should we prepare a rigid self or a flexible self for the future? Preparing for a multi-faceted talent to participate in the world, or a self that can survive only in the face of certainty job.
